Last of the Summer Days

The girls and I enjoyed a lovely day at the park. The weather was perfect, sunny and breezy. On Monday Athena starts her preschool at a Montessori day school. She'll be in "class" everyday from 9-12. So, these days are precious as we prepare to adapt to a whole new schedule next week.

Thursday is her new student orientation, hopefully she's going to love it and the transition from her current two-day a week daycare schedule to the new school everyday will be seamless. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to cram my work into a brief three hours in the morning (especially with the ever more mobile Zoe) but, I guess, we'll figure that out next week.

Zoe so desperately wants to be up and running with the big kids. She hates watching from the sidelines of my arms or her stroller and longs for independence. Whereas Athena has always clung to things from her babyhood (and sometimes it's a struggle to get her to let go), Zoe is just the opposite, happy to abandon all things baby-ish before I'm ready for her to do so.

As you can see from this picture, her top front teeth are growing in off center. It's like the cleft pushed her tooth buds to the side where there is more gum. We have a visit with her cranio-facial team this month, so I can find out what they do about baby teeth (if anything) and what to expect when her other teeth come in. In other news, we officially are documenting her third word as "tickle" (adding that to "Mama" and "Duck"). All bets are on "Up" as her next word (or..."Get me outta this stroller/high chair/exersaucer!")
