Unpacking

It feels like it's going to take forever to get this house in order. Everything is everywhere and nothing has a place yet. And to make it even more challenging, Zoe and Athena's preschool closed this week, I have a ton of work to catch up on and I've been a little coughy and achy. If I can unpack two boxes in a day it's a huge achievement.

I'm realizing my limitations. I just am no good at "making pretty." I need MorMor or Aunt Mimi to help me with that. Each box of knick knacks, books and pictures that I unpack, I just put aside, having no idea what to do with it. So I'm essentially unpacking boxes and just creating little piles of stuff in the corners of empty rooms. It makes me want to throw everything away and keep a clean, minimalist home. Less to dust.

This house is so massive (twice the size of our house in New York) that even with all our things in it, it remains empty. Stuff will come, things will find a place, but not yet. So no pictures.

But we are head over heels in love with our new house. I love my kitchen, my walk-in closet, the three bathrooms, my front loaded washer dryer, the new house smell! To us this is all total luxury and we are literally skipping around (dodging the piles) gleefully. We are already very happy here.

In the vastness of the kitchen, two little girls can help make pancakes.

Each family member has their own sink.

Zoe is now sleeping in a big girl bed.

Athena helps by unwrapping all the knickknacks.

The empty living room begs for gymnastics and play.

You will have more than you know what to do with in a year I'm sure. It's so important that you have fallen in love with an empty house, because now it will only get better. Best wishes to everyone and good luck with the new school search, I can't believe they can just shut down a pre-school like that without first attempting reconciliation.

Oh this was exactly us this summer (with the unpacking and going through everything). And yes, I was unpacking about a box or two a day on a good day. It took us a good month to go through everything and settle in. THEN we had a yard sale and trips to Goodwill to get rid of everything we discovered we no longer needed. We, too, are so happy to have a bigger place for more "living space" and not more "stuff space" - it's great! I never did unpack most of the nick-knacks, but instead marveled at the fact that I've accumulated so many. Those - and pictures for the walls - are the last things that we have left undone and will get to one day.

I say let the girls have a little cardboard village with all the empty boxes and empty space. That would be so much fun!

I don't know how you have the energy to even get 2 boxes a day unpacked! It will all come together in time...and then we want pictures!! :)

Nothing is better then loving your house as it becomes a HOME! :) I am really happy for you guys!

Hooray...I'm glad there is zero buyer's remorse or anything. I love moving just for the "getting rid of crap" it induces. I also enjoy my minimalist lifestyle as I don't even remember the last time I dusted. (I stay on top of just about everything else, though!)

Can't wait for pics! The girls are too cute in the box.

aww! I am so happy that you guys love your new BIG house! That is awesome!!

And don't worry, I am sure it won't be long before you are wondering what happened to your house with "minimal" clutter, lol.

I love the stage of moving in where the house still feels empty. Is that weird?

Don't worry Julie! I still have a few boxes to unpack after a year and a half! I know what's in them and we don't need it out. (So why, then, did we move them in the first place??? Hmmmm...)

Take your time! =)

SUCH CUTE pics! I am SO glad y'all are so happy in your new house! The unpacking does suck, but you will get there! We are unpacked for the most part, but there are still about 6 boxes in the garage that have yet to be unpacked-- who needs fine china and crystal out anymore anyway :) My rationale at least! Anyway, happy unpacking! Looks great!!
