Chris and I reached a new echelon of parenthood today. The one you get to when you are called at work and informed that your child has had an accident and to please get there right away. After a long panicked drive, where you hit every red light, you find your precious girl in the arms of the preschool administrator with a cold compress on her chin. The incident is explained to you, you sign some papers. Apparently there was running and a no-fault account of tripping and falling, her chin smacking on a small bookshelf.
Then there's a trip to Urgent Care, more papers to sign, and you find yourself holding your screaming child while a medical student in scrubs sews two stitches in the open wound on her chin. These are the things nightmares are made of.
Afterwards, when relating your story, everyone has a similar one. It is almost a fond remembrance "Oh yea, I remember the first time so-and-so hit their chin and split it open...ha, ha." First time. Oh crap.
She was a trooper though. Except for some shrill heart-wrenching cries, she suffered through. I told her that when Aunt Mimi was little she got a boo-boo on chin in just the same place. Athena replied, "Unca Stuart too, he got a boo-boo on his chin a couple of times!" How does she know that Unca Stu was the most accident prone kid in the history of world? Not something to live up to. Please.

Ohhhh, big hugs to brave Miss Athena! You're right...everyone has been through those tough moments. Sounds like you all handled it perfect!
Poor girl! KayTar has a scar under her nose from her Mother's Day fiasco last year. Sigh.
I've had chin stitches twice myself, and knee stitches once.
I hope she feels better soon. That pic is so sad!
Love, Cori
We haven't been there yet...but poor sweet girl. I'm glad she made it through...and stock up on the kids Mederma for when it heals.
We heart Mederma over here!
So how did she know that? I'm really curious.
But hey, I turned out fine... sorta.. just nothing due to the injuries... I think. lol
Love ya sweet Athena, you'll feel fine soon enough!
Poor Athena!!! It is true though- If I see 8 lacerations a month, 6 of them will be splitting open of the chin. She is in good company. Her first scar story...
ps. corey had stitches in his chin too...maybe even twice!?!
Oh no! Poor girl! I cannot imagine ... and I know the day is coming, but I prefer pretending it won't. What a sad picture! I hope she's feeling better now. I bet watching her get the stitches was pure torture.
Oh no! My hope is that Joseph is not as clumsy as mommy was as a child (3 head injuries - 2 involving stitches, 1 a fractured skull). We are up to 3 trips to the ER and I can only pray it is the last!
Oh no. What a little trooper she is. And I hope this is a one time event and that Zoe learns from her big sister.
That picture just about broke my heart....those eyes!
No stitches yet for Adam...just a permanent head dent and a broken leg. :)
Poor sweet girl! I guess now she's evened the score between her and Ella. I don't know which one's worse though, self induced haircut or stitches? I vote stitches, Athena's ahead!
Oh, that is one sad Athena face! I'm glad she is alright though and hugs to mom and dad.
Hey, I may be the only one to remember the trauma when Athena's mother needed several stitches after a neighbor's dog almost blinded her. I can still feel the tears in my eyes as she lay on that hospital table, face covered in blood, holding her little hand, but she didn't scream at all. Tell her to show Athena her scars.
